Sony is developing "24 Jump Street" with Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube in talks to return. Rodney Rothman will direct from a script he co-wrote with Hill and Meghan Malloy, with original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller returning as producers.
The franchise has been attempting a third installment for over a decade, a previously planned "23 Jump Street" crossover with "Men in Black" was scrapped. Skipping directly to "24 Jump Street" continues the franchise's self-aware numbering gag established in "22 Jump Street," which ended with a montage of hypothetical sequels including medical school, space missions, and an animated series.
The "Jump Street" films are themselves a reboot of the 1980s TV series that starred Johnny Depp in one of his earliest roles.
